When did the teddy bear come about?
The teddy bear came about in response to a cartoon that was made of Theodore (Teddy) Roosevelt. During his tenure in office, in 1902, Teddy went out on a hunting trip into the wilderness. A Washington Post cartoonist drew up a rendition of the activity, but it went through many alterations. Each of the revisions made the bear smaller and cuter, hence the stylized cuteness and form the bear takes today, as if it were almost hugging a tree. Commercialization of the bear began the next year as the bears were sold as Teddy’s bear. In the course of its millennial history the apostrophe has been drop, but the tradition retained.
